House of Memory by Weezilou

House of Memory

"Bordering on the Confederate graves is a Gothic style House of Memory built in 1935 honoring North Carolina veterans and sailors. The gravestone markers consist of six North Carolina Senators, 1,500 Confederate soldiers, four generals, and many prominent state officeholders. Eight North Carolina governors are also buried at Oakwood"

This cemetery is also in current use, and we stopped by the grave site of Elizabeth Edwards, stoic wife of the disgraced presidential contender, John Edwards.
Great capture, perspective and information

Very interesting image and narrative Louise. The aftermath of a Civil War must be so difficult for any society to deal with. So many wounds, physical and mental, no matter how valid the cause. Very sobering.
