Black Phoebe by Weezilou

Black Phoebe

While this is yet another monochrome garden bird, she's fun to watch! She has no interest in birdseed, but she sits by the pool and then flies into the water, taking any insects off the top! I tried (quite unsuccessfully!) to capture the action, but perhaps this would make a good gif image!

While waiting for the hummer, I kept being distracted by other small events around the yard!
Another little cutie! Never seen one of these either! Do you get Phoebes in Canada or do they like the warm climate of SC?

They're little black & grey crested birds, and we've only ever seen them here... (haha...just got it...you want photos of them!) One just to have an annual nest of babies at the top of the house...I loved that. But a number of years ago when we had the house painted, Ken had the painter remove the nest...against my protestation! They never returned there, but I'm happy to see them back in the yard!

I've always thought that birds must supplement their seed meals with insects! Phoebe must be very particular, her meals have to be fresh!

A new pool cleaner, huh?!

That sounds like an excellent bird to have around the place, an environmentally-friendly insect catcher.

@golftragic And he gathers his own food! VERY environmentally friendly (along with my lizards!)

Very handy. Get a few more of those and you can get rid of the pool skimmer!

@stray_shooter Like many cleaning women, they "don't do ducks"...and yes, I know one might have a play on words there ; )

@Weezilou Oh yes, lizards are such a great asset to the garden. We have a blue-tongue living in our fernery sometimes. I'd be very happy if he took up permanent residence. Apart from anything else, snakes won't come anywhere near blue-tongues.
