Cape Spear, Newfoundland by Weezilou

Cape Spear, Newfoundland

I always gather photos of signage when we travel, as they're a wealth of information and once back home, I can recall the name of "that amazing place!" we visited! As this place is unique in all of North America, I added the signs to the image.

The stairs to the top of the hill (and the home of the lighthouse keeper) were daunting, but I was determined to do it! I'd stopped here while Ken went the rest of the way, but when he didn't quickly return, I had to see for myself! I made it all the way, arriving at 5:30...when the house was being closed for the day!

A Lemonade Moment: I'd had some good exercise!
I loved it here Louise!! While the steps looked too much for me I decided to walk down to the cliff edge to see if I could see any wildlife - I was getting a bit desperate by now!! LOL!! Yes I was thrilled to see gannets flying along the coast and out to sea and managed to get some shots even though there was quite a distance. I was amazed when a woman grabbed my arm and said whales!! Yes there were humpback whales skimming along the surface and blowing water from their blowholes!! So exciting to see. Sad that they didn't breach but hey you can't have everything!! LOL! Fav for such lovely memories!! Of course I did fall up the steps on my way back up to the car but nobody saw me so I was able to dust myself off quickly!! LOL!!

I'm so glad you take pictures of information signs, I do too! This is an important place, amazing that nothing is farther east than this! Very cool. Good geography lesson for me.

Wonderful lighthouse. My dh always wanted picture of the signs and I would mutter about doing. Now I take the pictures and remember him.

@aglennc haha...you didn't read my "prideful" note: The stairs to the top of the hill ... were daunting, but I was determined to do it! I'd stopped here while Ken went the rest of the way, but when he didn't quickly return, I had to see for myself! I made it all the way, arriving at 5:30.
(It was a very long climb)!!!

@Weezilou Opps! I read it, but my mind shut down immediately afterwards. Yes, we both made it too, Major endeavor. But when we travel we do things that often surprise ourselves just because we don't want to miss anything. We might not be back! Gotta get photos, you know.

@aglennc 100% correct on everything you just wrote! Sometimes, at home, I'll avoid having to go upstairs, but to get photos like this on a trip,I'll stay after it one step at a time!

@busylady Thanks, Judith. Pam was just telling me earlier that you had lived in Newfoundland! We certainly had a spectacular time there!

I do the same thing, not only for the information, but also to remind me where the photo was taken. I've even made small signs with rocks, to show the names of places, if I can't find a sign :)
