We have lizards in profusion in our back yard, but altogether they might only add up to One Iguana! This one was only medium sized compared to some others! They were on top of cages (looking for food, maybe?) and all over the sidewalks! Like mallard ducks, these were locals, and we saw Mallard ducks, too, even here!
Joy @joysfocus, just back from Mexico, said she heard they had a ferocious bite. I asked a couple of locals, and they said, no, not at all! (I have held them a couple of times and they're quite docile) Well, it was fun to encounter them again for a nice touch of local color!
"Anything with a mouth can and will bite. Most of the time an iguana will give warning when it's about to bite. ... But the short answer is; yes, iguanas are capable of inflicting serious bite wounds. They have extremely sharp teeth and powerful jaws." According to iguanaresource.org} The locals tell you otherwise so you won't be scared of them. Plus they want you to spend money. I think one would really have to antagonize the poor iguana before it would bite.
@joysfocus "Mouth" = "Biting Capability" ... You're right! I photographed many Iguanas, and lizards of many shapes and sized and refrained from trying to pick any of them up!
@Dawn looking back at your comment (and we saw them everywhere!) it comes to mind that "they were there first", so it begs the question, "Are we a problem to Them?!" They're not at all aggressive...
