Day 148: Above the clouds

We are back in BC. I took this quick shot with my iPhone through the double glass, some 35,000 feet above the ground.

The photographer in me feels like I should have used my real camera with a circular polarizer. I look at it and think, "not as good as the other ones".

The truth is that this is one of the most amazing pictures I've ever taken, not for its technical merits or aesthetic qualities. But for the amount of science and technology required for this picture to exist at all and for you to see it wherever you are.

As someone who works in technology, it's easy to take it all for granted. I remind myself daily that we live in an amazing time with incredible technology at our disposal. A true testament to our standing on the shoulders of giants; to the human ability to create and innovate.
I quite agree - and did your iPhone tell you exactly where in the world you were? When I did this on a flight last year apparently I was somewhere over Ireland and even though the phone was on flight mode it somehow knew where it was!

It was on the border between Canada and the US, above a border town in Michigan. :)
