Olive

My partner Wendy @farmreporter challenged me to shoot in low light with high ISO and use my histogram as far right as possible and then recover highlights. This method reduces the noise found in the shadows...51200 ISO, f/8 noise now is really starting to show in the shadows.

I have to say that it is an area of photo science that I have been promoting at club in recent months. Firstly, the phenomenon of invariance does not apply to Canon models. Secondly there is an inverse link from ISO to dynamic range and at 51200, your range is probably no more than 2! [see http://photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm] which means that your recovery process (even in RAW) starts at a huge disadvantage.

This is not a criticism, I like the shot, but it's a big subject.

Very interesting concept. Also interesting comments from @ellida. Thanks both of you for the lesson.

This is really super! You did a great job on it.
I found Graham's comments interesting @ellida .
So much to learn in photography - just when you think you have a concept figured out you find another wrench in the equation!
A FAV, BTW!

Congrats on being a finalist! This YouTube video is VERY helpful, as I shoot with an Oly and a micro 4/3 sensor. Thank you. :)
