My partner Wendy @farmreporter challenged me to shoot in low light with high ISO and use my histogram as far right as possible and then recover highlights. This method reduces the noise found in the shadows...51200 ISO, f/8 noise now is really starting to show in the shadows.
I have to say that it is an area of photo science that I have been promoting at club in recent months. Firstly, the phenomenon of invariance does not apply to Canon models. Secondly there is an inverse link from ISO to dynamic range and at 51200, your range is probably no more than 2! [see http://photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm] which means that your recovery process (even in RAW) starts at a huge disadvantage.
