They say this is one of the most photographed trees in the world, and every time I visit Portland I visit the garden to photograph it. I have no regrets either, because despite the dozens of photographs I have, I love looking at it with its beautiful lines, shadows, and colors. Another for my get-pushed challenge to photograph something that shows "no regrets."

Mary @mcsiegle This may seem an odd choice, but I visit the garden every time I visit Portland, and I stop and photograph this tree every time I visit the garden. My daughter just walks down to the corner, perches on the rock, and patiently waits until I have tried a variety of lenses and angles and feel I might finally have "the one." And then we do it again on my next visit ... with no regrets.
@libertylady This tree is in the Portland Japanese Garden located in Washington Park. It even has a Flickr page devoted to pictures of "that tree" that can be seen here: https://www.flickr.com/groups/14678506@N00/pool/
It turns the most glorious orange/red in the fall, but my daughter's fall break is about two weeks ahead of when it turns and I don't think I'll ever get the opportunity to see it then.
@taffy It's in the Portland Japanese Garden in Washington Park. It turns the most glorious orange/red in late October, but my daughter's fall break is always earlier. It has a flickr page here: https://www.flickr.com/groups/14678506@N00/pool/
I love that this was the first photo in my feed tonight. I am in Portland now, with one of my main focuses to photograph this tree. I came completely unprepared with the wrong lens and camera, though, and passed by it without even knowing it was "the one" until I finally had to ask someone :). Such a gorgeous capture of it, well done...fav.
I think it's fascinating to photograph and rephotograph the same objects even when they are not as spectacular as this tree. It's amazing to me how different every shot is.
@tina_mac I was unaware of this tree on my first visit to the garden, but loved its lines and took several photos which I posted in my google+ for my family to see. I immediately got a text from my son asking where I had found it, as it was his favorite tree and had been his computer backdrop for over a year. What a surprise! Hopefully you can go back again. It's beautiful through all seasons.
