The blue jays aren't the only visitors to my parents' back yard. While the jays dominate the feeder with peanuts, other birds come to see what the commotion is about and dip in whenever they get a chance. Squirrels, too, wait on the sidelines, but I think their patience has more to do with the abundance of walnuts from the black walnut trees that tower over the yard. I put out some sunflower seed heads that were left behind after harvest, but those only seemed to scare off these city birds. I'll have to see if anyone braved their strangeness when I next visit.
