overhead

My parents have a summer home along a creek in the Pine Ridge south of their hometown. Unfortunately my father's health has limited their time there the past few years, so a couple of times each month I take my mower up and mow. This week I was greeted by this wonderful shrub which had cascading purple blooms. It had only one butterfly visiting, but with so many flowers this Red Admiral didn't flutter about at all. It simply meandered slowly back and forth enjoying the abundance of tiny blooms.
Stunning color.

@psychographer Thank you! It's very old, and it annoys my mother so she's always cut it back rather severely. Not being able to get out there this year it was left alone. She said she had no idea it could flower like that. Now I'll just have to take away her pruning sheers!

@aecasey Notoriously difficult to get rid of. Copper nails in the stump have been known to work xx
