While I was watching the ducks, I noticed this little bird frenetically bobbing and circling across the pond. At first I was concerned it was having a seizure of some sort, but when I saw several more doing exactly the same thing I decided that was their eating pattern. It seems so odd and expends so much energy! Fun to watch, hard to photograph. Had to include at least one. And ... yes ... That's a barb-wire fence crossing the wetlands. It didn't bother the birds. I did try cloning it out, and eldest said it was actually quintessential Nebraska so I left it in.
I think that is a Wilson's Phalarope. Phalaropes are known for spinning in the water like that (to stir up food) and it matches the drawings in my field guide.
