American Kestrel by aecasey

American Kestrel

Last night after sunset I noticed five birds gathered in the upper bare branches of a tree in the windbreak. Though we don't normally see kestrels here, the shape and flight made me think maybe that what they were. So, I staked out the windbreak tonight. Sure enough, just as the sun began to touch the horizon, in came one...but just one this time. I got a few snaps off before it was too dark, but the shadows were deep. Processed in Lightroom, Silver Efex, and Topaz Texture Effects to help lift this one off the background. These are such beautiful little falcons. I know they winter down in the Platte River Valley ... I'll be on the lookout!
What a beautiful looking bird.
