The surrounding windbreaks are full of deer staying away from the hunters patrolling the road. It's a game of cat and mouse that the hunters are losing today. Our windbreaks border the county road, and the hunters can clearly see they are full of deer, but without permission to hunt all they can do is watch. Two orange vested riflemen did pull into the yard and ask. They were very polite, and fully anticipated the "no." I appreciated their inquiry. Once they knew these deer were not in their sights they stopped driving up and down the road and moved on. So, the bucks and does made it through the first weekend of rifle season. One more weekend to go.
