A Bristlecone Pine, one of the oldest--and way coolest-- trees in the world.
While it is nice to think I have improved my editing skills somewhat since taking this shot a couple of years ago, it is also quite evident I have a lot to learn. For one thing, while cloudy skies are easy to edit, I'm finding it quite frustrating and dang near impossible to get smooth tonal gradations (no banding) from a clear day. Gaaah!
wow, That tree is amazing. And what a dramatic photo. Sorry, haven't seen your photos in ages, need to catch up. I miss your images. I rarely put the pc on in the morn but having a lazy day today so going to have a look through now.
I'm so behind with commenting! Do be patient with me :s
I love the detail on this...it's like someone has been buried underneath it, and their spirit is filling the tree with character and wisdom.
um, this is awesome! eerie, dramatic. looks like a tree from the Wizard of Oz. And what do you mean that white cloudy skies are easy to edit- I mean in what way? cuz I'm just curious.
@craigdtull OMG, I know what you mean. I spent all day trying to catch up with the 365 peeps, and I still haven't reached everyone. Gaah! (I'm getting to your awesome pics SOON!!)
@stepheesue Heh heh-Clouds are way easier to hide mistakes in processing and/or exposure! With a perfectly clear sky, I tend to get gradations in tone that aren't very smooth and the colors tend to "band" up. This sky has just such a phenomenon if you look closely. Frustrating on an otherwise decent image!
Whoa - magnificent! It's like it's twisting and reaching for something in the sky and it's tendrils could go up forever. .....ah....not sure what kind of dreams I had last night......
