My dear friend and colleague Barbara (center) is retiring. Next Friday will be her last day as a member of the library team. (Susan, on the right, whose wedding picnic I photographed, is the other great friend.) Not only does she do an amazing job keeping the behind-the-scenes part of the library running smoothly, but she has shared her life with us for 17 years. I can't begin to recount all we have shared but through our families we have experienced illnesses and death, marriages and births, graduations and major life decisions. And through it all we have been there for each other, like a 3-legged stool that needs all 3 legs to stand.
What a lovely tribute to a co-worker who is so much more! True friends can be hard to come by, you are lucky to have these wonderful women in your life!
This is a lovely tribute to your friends and co-workers. She's been a giant part of your work-life; I know it must be difficult to picture next year at school without her. If you are like me you didn't "see" this coming as I always pictured my friends and I working until we were all old to retire -- which, of course, we thought we would NEVER get old.
