Florida Snow by allie912

Florida Snow

The brutal Christmas blizzard of 2010 made news by barreling up the Atlantic coast of the United States. You might not think about little kids in Florida who only hear about snow second hand . Well Aunt Meg in Boston (who ought to be a personal shopper because she has such creative gift ideas), didn't forget her snow-deprived niece in Gainesville. She found this product called Instant Snow described thus on the internet:
"Just add water and the powder instantly erupts into amazing artificial snow that looks and feels like the real thing. Technically, it’s a superabsorbent polymer (if you really want to know), but it looks and feels like the real thing. It’s so realistic that it’s being used in indoor snowboarding parks and by special effects artists in movies. Once you start playing with the stuff, you just can’t put it down."
Even the grown ups were transfixed by this, and for Maddie who has never seen a real snowflake in her life, it provided hours of winter fun.
It just goes to prove that you can find anything on the internet.

I saw this product in a can at Pier 1 --- very clever marketing!

BTW, polymers are what they use in disposable diapers ... I wonder if you'd get the same thing if you opened one and added water to the contents?

Denise is too funny in her comment. I am looking forward to temps in the 40's and those Florida types want snow! We always want most what we don't have.;-0. Cute shot.

That Meg sure *is* a good shopper! Glad Maddie enjoyed the snow! And that Denise, tell her she might want to experiment with the diaper effect and then let you know how it turned out! lol
