Before the first bell rings at school, the library is open for check out, study, socializing and computer activities. As you can see the computers are very popular. Look closely; what do you notice about the students grouped around the computers? The fact is they are almost all girls. Why this is and where the boys are, I really couldn't say. But it's good to know that technology doesn't play favorites.
I do see some boys, but my thought is (based on having raised two of them) that if the gym is open or there's a place where they can move and not be sedentary, that's where the boys are!
@olivetreeann You are right about the gym being open, but actually there were boys in the library today, but they were doing other things. And some days the ratio of boys to girls is totally flipped. They certainly keep me off balance!
Love that the library is open to them...just before I went on leave, our librarian, who had been at the school for 40 years, retired. Soon after that they cut the library program...no more library classes and the library was barely ever open...it was HEARTBREAKING!!! I was so glad my friend had retired and was not around to see what had become of her beloved space!! How do you not have a library in an elementary school????
