Sharing a Story

Last month I shared the excitement of the newly published story, Pagne Pals, http://365project.org/allie912/whatintheworld/2016-04-15
created by our own Holly Smith and translated into French by Native Cameroonian Martine Tchitchiche. Martine is now living in the United States, forced to flee from the Boko Haram, and has been accepted into a Ph.D program at the University of Pennsylvania where she will study comparative literature. She came to our school to meet her American fans and share some stories about life in Cameroon. She is a delightful young woman and a wonderful role model for girls, not just of her country but in ours as well. I think we all came away with a deeper appreciation of the importance of education.
Here you see Holly reading the English version of the story of life in Cameroon and Richmond, while Martine follows by reading the French translation. The children in the audience are Third Graders studying French and Second Graders who helped create the illustrations for the book. They were all captivated, and so were the adults in attendance.
Wonderful story, collage! Glad she is here!!
