City Syrup by allie912

City Syrup

I'm beginning to think all my neighbors are nuts. Or at least quietly eccentric. Someone is tapping a maple tree in Richmond, Virginia! And as you can see in the right hand shot, they are getting a pretty good yield. In researching the subject, I learned it takes between 30-40 gallons of maple sap to make one gallon of pure maple syrup. Looks like they've got a way to go!
Cool

I have helped make his before and it is way to much trouble for the yield, but it is good. It takes about 20 gallons of water also and lots of firewood.

Think that I'll just get my bottle of syrup at the store! Interesting capture . . but, yes, a little eccentric. :)

Yes, I agree with Karenann, I will leave it up to the experts and pay them for their work

I find this very interesting as I have only heard about this before. How far in does the tap go?

Well, this is better than wrapping up a stop sign at least (with your eccentric neighbors)...LOL! What a neat way to get syrup. I was amazed to see the price of syrup at the grocery store....can't blame them ;-)

@lynne3804 Good question but I can't answer since i never saw the person who was doing this.

Funny! Sounds like a lot of work for the small amount of syrup I use! Maybe they were just seeing if it was possible !
