And so we take a final look at the Chihuly exhibit before moving on to other things. Starting at the lower left you can see a display of Chihuly sketches he created to inspire his glass designs. Above that on the upper left are a few of his remarkable organic shapes. If you have ever seen a video of craftsmen from his studio blowing and spinning glass, you will recognize these flower-like shapes. On the upper right is part of Chihuly's extensive collection of Native American trade blankets from the American Southwest. These were displayed in a space in which there was also an assemblage of 30 glass Baskets inspired by Native American baskets. I didn't photograph them because they were clear and did not show up well. The final picture on the lower right is a close up from the exhibit I began with which included the boats.
It is interesting to note that there were select Chihuly pieces for sale in the museum gift shop, starting at $5000+ and that, as of Monday, the shop had sold eleven pieces. (I learned that from a friend who volunteers at the museum.) Well the nice thing is you don't have to own art to enjoy it.
