A Bumper Crop

It was like a mine field, crossing this suburban street. At first I thought they were acorns, but on closer inspection I see they haven't got the little caps acorns are noted for. Any ideas? I'm sorry I didn't pay greater attention to the leaves of the tree from which these little bombs fell.
I don't know! But you sure do have a lot of them there!

Such a lovely autumn sight! Interesting interplay of sunlight and shadows.

In my garden they are the fruit from the date palms but they don't squash like these. Rather messy aren't they?

They don't look familiar at all. they make a good combination with the leaves.
