My library colleague and I have a summer grant to reorganize the library fiction collection.The goal is to make it easier for our students to locate titles by literary genres. We have separated books by genre, adding special spine labels, changed their location in the online catalog and finally we will create new signage to direct library users to the section they are searching for. Summer is a great time to work on this because the collection is pretty much intact. It will be fun to introduce this new way of searching for books to our young readers in the Fall. Our hope is that it will encourage browsing and ultimately more reading. By the way, the titles will still be arranged by author within each genre so the students will still need to know how to alphabetize!
