Tonight was Dinner with a Librarian. A list of 6 restaurants was posted, each with a different local host, and you could sign up to go to dinner to the restaurant of your choice. I choseThe Palace Cafe, and six of us had a great time, eating well and sharing stories of life in the library at schools from Massachusetts to New Orleans. The highlight of the meal occurred when two diners chose Bananas Foster for dessert. The waiter prepared this spectacular dish at the table, made with butter, sugar, bananas, cinnamon and flaming rum. He gave us the background of the name. Originally created at Brennan's and called Bananas Flambee, it was the favorite of a local politician in the early 1950's. He ordered it so often, the chef renamed it after him. I had no room for dessert, but was happy to record the moment.
Great photos! I'm enjoying your photos of New Orleans. We were there last Friday, visiting the World War II Museum with our grandchildren--and eating at a great restaurant, of course.
