An International Get-Together

Collegiate School hosts 41 high school students from nine countries for the 7th Annual International Emerging Leaders Conference (IELC). For the next 10 days, the international delegates will be hosted by Collegiate families and, alongside 16 Collegiate seniors, will work in teams to solve environmental challenges facing each of their countries. Collegiate seniors are involved in the conference as part of their IELC Senior Capstone class.
As I was leaving the Upper School, I saw this group engaged in an informal discussion, and asked if I could grab a picture. Here we have students from Spain, India and China as well as Collegiate students.
Over the course of the conference, students will hear from various speakers, visit local universities and present their solutions at DesignPitch, a culminating event of the conference open to the general public. The delegates will also spend time with JK-12 Collegiate students and share aspects of their cultures.
I'll be looking forward to the visit to Lower School on Friday. It is a rare experience for our younger students to meet and question young leaders from around the world.
Great opportunity for both international and Collegiate students! Really nice photo of them. I was wondering about language--do all the international students speak English? What languages do Collegiate students study?
