I had a moment of inspiration, cooperating weather and a willing model (my 6 year old, Emily) yesterday. Everything was in line so we went to an abandoned house nearby and took some photos on the tire swing there that I had been envisioning. It was a fun time and afterward I gave everyone a spin on the swing.
I got to witness a beautiful moment at the airport recently. I actually got to help bring it about. I was standing in line at the bag check/scanner area waiting my turn to put my bags, shoes, etc. on the belt and walk through the scanner. I saw a figure on the other side of the glass in the lobby area gesturing in the corner of my eye. I looked over and saw an elderly gentleman and he motioned for me to get the attention of an older lady in line ahead of me.
“Ma’am,” I said. “Is he with you?” as I pointed back to the eager old gentleman looking in.
“Oh, honey, he’s not WITH me. He BELONGS to me.” She beamed with pride.
And then I watched the two of them waving goodbye to one another. He stood with his hand raised out to his wife, still sweet on her after 50+ years of marriage. And then he looked back to me and waved and mouthed “Thank you.” It was very touching. It made me tear up to watch them. Later I realized what an amazing photo it could have been. The man standing with his hand extended out to his dear wife. Maybe their hands pressed to the glass toward one another. Unfortunately, though, I was weighed down with luggage and my camera was at the bottom of my bag. It was a missed photo op, but still a beautiful moment for me to take in and melt my heart. I wanted to share it with you, too.
This is a stunning picture but the story is just amazing. I so love to see elderly couple being so close to each other, warms your heart and gives you hope. Just wonderful
Touching..... thanks for sharing a beautiful moment here.... a fav for this moment and a fav for your swinging 6 year old, love the stance of her arms and toes...
Wonderful photo. I love Emily's dress. My daughter's name is very similar and she gets called Emily all the time when we are in an English speaking country. Lovely story as well.
@tbats22 Aw, thanks so much, my friend. I think you forgot to hit the fav button, though. Hey, if you ever come to the area, I will take you to the swing. I am tempted to take it. It's perfect and hanging at an abandoned place. I so love it.
boy oh boy I don't know which I like better...the photo or the story. They are both endearing and sweet. Love your little Emily with her polka dot dress on that swing! All I can say is I love the story about the elderly couple...although I had envisioned them being married 60 years....I've been married almost 40 and no where close to "old" hahahaha It's so miserable here 112 today...can't wait to get there.
This is a truly lovely and delightful photograph, Amanda! Love the breeze in her dress and those bare feet. Wonderful! Also, thank you for sharing your touching little vignette. Sweetness.
This is just so adorable, love your comp, the light and her little spotty dress and expression. She's such a great model. Lovely story too Amanda. Fav of course!
Oh, love the photo. Emily is a cutie, and that dress looks lovely on her. Great shot and sounds like you had a fun time. Sweet story about the old couple too.
Love this photo of your beautiful daughter! I saw a tire swing the other day in some one else's yard and had a fleeting moment of running into the yard quickly to take shot..even though it would be empty. Your story is so sweet and send chills through my body. I don't need a photograph to see it..I see it clearly. Thanks for sharing!! Beautiful capture...FAV
A lovely shot - Emily looks great in her polka dress with bare feet! I love the airport story. Reminds me of my nan once telling me that every morning she and my granddad would reach across from their single beds to hold hands. She would say "another day, Dennis, another day...". Sadly, they're no longer with us, but still holding hands somewhere I hope!
PS. Hope you had a go on the tyre swing too!
@thirtysevenways How is your daughter's name spelled? Thanks so much for your great comments and the fav. Funny that our daughters have such similar names. How old is yours? Mine is 6.
@megmills Meg, I changed the time married to 50+ years. Of course it was not 40...my parents are nearly that, too. Silly me. Thanks for your comments!
@zam Thanks so much for the fav, kind words and follow back, Zam!
@eyesmile Thank you so much for the fav, my friend!! You are so kind!
@deeganp Aw, thank you, Miss Pea. Tonight I thought of a cute nickname for my daughter...chick pea. you ever get that? Appreciate the kind words and fav!
Thank you all so much for your sweet comments on this image. This is one of my favorite ones of Emily thus far, I think (up there for sure). Also I am so glad that you enjoyed the sweet love story from the airport. It was nice to write it down so I will always remember it.
@amandal Ha! Of course it is. I did see this and I thought I commented but I just scrolled through and saw that I didn't. I see why you tagged me. I love the shot and the processing. A tire swing is on my bucket list. I tried a few last summer but none that really came out how I wanted. I love the composition and light in this one and your vintage processing is perfect...a delicate hand.
@amandal her little brother more so :) funnily she is going to a party this afternoon and she is wearing her favourite dress which is white with blue spots!
@thirtysevenways Never saw it...I will have to rent that one. I'd heard it was good. And how funny that your son is more dramatic. Her dress choice sounds perfect!
such a sweet story... i would have teared up too. congrats on the nice day that finally showed up! haha. and a wonderfyl shot of your daughter in her dotted dress!
@rennes I still remember the tire swing at my preschool that I loved. Thanks so much for the fav. I am tempted to go to the abandoned house and take down this swing, but...I don't know. We will use it there in the meantime:)!
Thanks for sharing the sweet story.
PS. Hope you had a go on the tyre swing too!
