Today it is just gorgeous out. I've been stuck indoors for days with a sick kiddo. She's much better today, so we struck out for a couple errands and then off on a quick photo trip for me. I stalked my favorite lone tree for a summer shot and got hooted at as I lay on the ground by a road (I have to lay to get all of the distracting background out). I still don't have a shot I love yet for summer. The hooting threw off my game.
And then we went to a pond where a neighbor took Lucas fishing yesterday. The neighbor called later to tell me that there is a kingfisher at the pond (I guess because he thought I may want to take a photo of it). I went to look for it. No kingfisher in sight, but I did enjoy watching the lovely dragonflies buzzing around. And I managed to catch this one (the blue ones were quick buggers only being still for a second or two). But I liked them the best being one of my favorite colors and all. Watching them was more special than usual because I am reading a book about the lady named Clara who designed the dragonfly lamp for Louis Tiffany. It felt like I was along with her on a research trip. Loving the references to art and seeing beauty all around you in the book.
Wishing you all a happy weekend. Excited for my meet up with my 365 friend, Katie tonight. Hope to get some good night skyline shots of the city.
Looks better on black if you have a sec. And this looks waaaay better on FB, if you are my friend on there. What up with that?!
I am your FB friend and the photos do look good there! I had thought of getting down on my knees yesterday to photograph a tiny caterpillar wiggling along the pavement but was afraid I'd be carted off to a resthome as it was a main road! Good for you!
@amandal Sure! I'll hop in the car. You're only what...20 hours away or something? ;). Yep, Nikon girl here! I'd have no lenses to swap, though. Just my kit. Maybe when I go back to work in a few years...
No, I just have the zoom and not lenses either. We are both one lens girls, I guess. One day...I'm looking for a part time job now and maybe I can save for something small. @emrob
I like mixing it up and keeping everyone, myself included on their toes. Last night I was out shooting the skyline. You got up early. on a weekend. @adamj
Beautiful - this may sound strange but the silky tone of her(?) tail and the constrained elegance of the shape put me in mind of a delicate geisha in a tight and movement limiting kimono.
lovely shot, love the details ~ good luck with your meet up, I am hearing so many good meet up stories, I may have to try and find one to attend myself
Oh Amanda...you KNOW I will FAV this. Just lovely.....I am soo envious. I have a wind chime with a dragon fly on it that I photographed. It may be the closest I come! Beautiful. Did I say FAV?
@snaggy Love your comments, Kev. Thank you. I spent about 15-20 minutes at the side of the pond shooting away. Thanks, too, for the fav. Hope you get one!
@eyesmile You are so super duper sweet, Gena. Thank you so much for your kind words and fav!
Thanks to you all for your lovely comments on this dragonfly. They are such amazing creatures up close. Oh for a macro lens someday so I can get even better detail. The meet up was great, small, but fun. I so wish we could all do a massive meet up someday. In NYC. I'd love to meet you all!
@amandal Now that is a great idea, all meet up in NYC. Would love it. Will settle for you coming back to CA for a visit though and meeting up that way.
@amandal Not a chance that I will be able to get out your way but hope one day you will be out here. Just give me some notice when you do come out and we will set up a day and time to get together.
STRIKINGLY beautiful in his blue attire! and yes, those hooters are terribly distracting....had one the other day say, "hey! i can help you take those pictures baby...need help? i like pictures......"WOW. SO hard to concentrate while pretending to not hear.........
@edie I loved that I finally captured one. Aren't they pretty?! Dying to know how your thing went. Were you selling or just exhibiting? I'm sure it went amazingly well as your photos are so great! I attempted a swing shot the other day and thought of you:).
@emrob I love him. Thanks so much for sweet words and the fav. Come on over, we can swap lenses sometime. Are you shooting with a Nikon?
@eyesmile You are so super duper sweet, Gena. Thank you so much for your kind words and fav!

@moreyoulessme Wow, yours was worse than mine. Mine was just a hoot as they drove by. That's tough, Jerri. Wish the hooters would just go away!
