I love how free kids are when they play. The reckless abandon they have. And then there comes a point when they realize that what they are doing is no longer socially acceptable. That they can no longer dance in water with their tongue hanging out in public and not look like a freak. I wish we could go back to the before that point and always be this fun and free and silly. I often try (I have less inhibitions than most), but then it embarrasses the heck out of my kids. That makes me laugh and then I do it all the more.
This was taken at a inner city park which was once filled with drug dealers and prostitutes. Last summer, it was renovated and has become an amazing gem of a park and is revitalizing a once bad area. What great planning went into this! It's very small in comparison, but it gave me a little feeling that I was back in Central Park.
Please see big to see the spray and the joyful expression better. And thanks so much for all of your love and comments and faves over the past few days! You all inspire and encourage me so. Keep cool!
Wonderful shot! And it was such a scary spot until the redo.
And I love to embarrass my 36 & 42 year old "kids" and do it on purpose often. I try and make time to let the child take over and just have Fun with a capital F.
This is so great! Your capturing and freezing the motion was just perfect. I was out last night trying to do a similar thing with an open fire hydrant, but (a) kids weren't cooperating as they were standing outside the water spray and (b) I had the shutter too slow -- went with the wrong idea. Oh well. Now that I've seen yours I know what to do differently! So thanks!
@taffy Can't wait to see your shot. I love when kids play in the city fire hydrants. Mine did in our neighborhood once, but never seen if for real in the city. Only on TV:). Thank you...and glad I could help.
Sooooo wonderful!! Just a perfect capture for a warm summer day. And you are so right about the care free abandon of children. I love having them near by! They keep us younger. Love this!
@amandal Actually, when I saw them, I was so disappointed in them that I decided not to post. It's on again tonite but I'm camera-less with both getting their sensors cleaned. One of these days!
@amandal Thank you Amanda - I feel we all owe that to each other as part of what 365 is about -it is not just posting our own shots but recognizing what is at good in others so we can incorporate that into our own work. That said your work has helped me with my own. Thanks
Thank you all for your lovely comments on this joyous little lady playing in the water. May we all be more free like children and less concerned with social appropriateness:)!!
@cathrinemitch I LOVE that you said that, lady. That this made your day. You made mine with that comment!:) Isn't she gorgeous and fun? Thanks for faving her:)!!
Wonderful photo. They are the best things. My kids found hoses for the first time while we were away. I've never seen them have so much fun. Sorry for lack of commenting. Tiredness coupled with sickness and single parenting have taken their toll. I have another week of it this week as well!!
What a wonderful photo, Amanda. And love like always what you wrote. We used to turn on the sprinklers in our front yard to cool off in our old house, probably 15 years ago. Kids and adults. It was so much fun. Great memories. Fav
@helixconcepts@bristolrose@thirtysevenways Thanks so much, friends. And no worries, Andy...you never have to apologize. I know that life is crazy...and doing it alone and taking care of your sick family. Praying for wellness for you all and a much easier week!
@darsphotos You need lots of sprinkler and pool time in Sac:). Isn't she sweet here? Thanks so much for the great comments and fav!
@amandal You are right, lots of sprinkler and pool time here especially this year as it has been so hot a lot. She is really sweet. Such a perfect capture. You could almost reach out and touch her. Amazing detail. You are welcome as always my friend.
