It all started out as a few 365ers having a conversation while I was asleep on one of my Facebook status updates about eating an orange. Jeff Walker was auto corrected (swype corrected) a bunch and was saying the weirdest things including sewer tart instead of the name of a particular kind of orange. Mary pipes up that I am a sewer tart and when I get on and see this I say that I need to do a sewer tart selfie, so here you go...my friends. Me hanging out in the sewer.
Let me just say that most everything that could go wrong with this did. I went to do this, took 24 shots, came home and uploaded and all were wretchedly blurry and unusable. I was still in the outfit and feeling determined so we went back (Clara is my somewhat unwilling partner in crime). This time, my remote timer wouldn't work, I tried changing the camera battery, and ended up having to set the timer for 10 seconds and run, leaping like a mountain goat over rocks and sloshing through the water to get into place. After a few shots, Clara started to whine so I gave it up.
As I was packing up to go, this elderly couple walks by and asks me what is so interesting in that that I am taking a picture. I start to reply that I am using the circle to frame myself and then I just shake my head and say "I'm just crazy."
My knees hurt, my feet are wet, my pride suffered a tad and I am making a kissy, duck face for all the world to see. Just crazy.
Thanks for the inadvertent push Jeff and friends!:) When it didn't stink, it was kinda fun!!
Sounds like you had a great time pulling this one off! Well done for being so determined and heading back there in spite of it all. FAB shot. Well framed... great composition... love the pout!
Wow, this is a great shot, Amanda. Love the expression on your face. No one knows how hard it is to get the photos that you take or a lot of us do till we get the one we post on here. You spell it out in what you write above. Pure Perfection my friend. FAV
@m9f9l Rock on...I love cackles. Thanks so much, friend. How fun!! We should ALL do sewer tart shots!:)
@jsw0109 I can send you the image. Shoot me your email on FB. Thanks soooo much for the fun thread and idea. Your swype corrections are the best!! Oh and thanks for the fav!!:)
@rellimdj Well the outfit is from WalMart, does that sewer it up a bit more?;-). Thanks, friend! Recognize the Trinity pants. This is why I bought them.:)
I love it! I know the status which started it, but didn't see the aftermath lol. You've framed brilliantly. You do selfies well. There is an air of class even though it's in a sewer! Fav for you!@ And send Jeff a print dammit lol.
OMG Amanda, only you! Love this photo - although how you even knew where to go to find a sewer to pose in it, I'll never know! I love the colour of your hat and the autumn leaves lying in the water too. I have to FAV this one for effort if nothing else!
@amandal oops, I just realized I sent you my address instead of my email... let me message you again. I told you work was turning Mr Braun to mesh!!!! (only you will get that, succa)
Great selfie and story too. I like the framing, the colors, and especially the subject. Fav for sure! @jamibann, her hunky husband may have helped provide the location of which sewer to use. Just a hunch though :-).
Instant fav! Of course! And I think Jeff had tried to type "sweet tart" for some reason...I forget why....and that turned to Sewer Tart and then YOU worked so hard and turned that "stupid Facebook conversation" into this! Bravo! Did u buy the pants just for this?
@maggiemae she had been taking about California Cuties, Maggiemae. Then Mary told her Cuties were Clementines and not what she had said they were. We got into a huge silly discussion about citrus fruits
@espyetta Yes, and because I kinda wanted them, too. I bought them at Walmart. They will probably fall apart after washing them, but...I got two selfies out of them. I feel like a rock star in them too. Thanks, lady. What fun. I dare you to do one:)). Really appreciate the fav!
@amandal a leather pants selfie? Or just a sewer tart pic? I would not look like a sewer tart. I would look like a big old swamp monster coming out to eat the city
love it ...reminds me of a shot I did last year except the sewer pipe wasn't in use yet. Didn't have my remote so like you a lot of mad woman running was involved...
Well worth the effort -- earned a fav -- and the result is fantastic! Funny, creative, intriguing, well balanced, and clear. What more could you want? And you have a great narrative to go with it!
@taffy Aw, thanks so much for that, kind friend. I couldn't ask for more! As frustrating (and embarrassing) as it can be sometimes, I sure do love a good story and somehow always seem to get them!!
this is such an attractive shot - colours & comp super - you look great - brought high class glamour to the sewer - the merest whiff of a 'tart' challenge makes you prick up your ears !?! fabulous fav! (are there a couple of you not quite making it into position with pink hat askew?? quite badly want to see one of those!)
@helixconcepts Thanks, lady. That would be fun to have done this with a friend. A whining kid wasn't as much fun!:(
@gozoinklings Thanks soooo much, my friend. I had had more complicated positions in mind, legs propping me up in the pipe, etc, but time wouldn't allow me to do much but get there in the 10 seconds. I burst a blood vessel in my eye doing this. I was always together hat wise and the other shots were not even remotely clear. I guess I had the exposure compensation set too high? Really appreciate your great fun comments and fav!!
@cdonohoue We really need to hang out sometime. I know some great sewers around here;-). Thanks so much, my friend. Need a meet up soon...maybe after the new year. Sheesh the time does fly!
THis is just perfect! Love it! I can't believe the lengths you go to to achieve this as well as the place you go! Does make me laugh and i simply love your creativity and your selfless! Great work!
@wind_of_the_sothern_sea Thanks, Arefin. Those behind stories have a tendency to make my shots some of the time. I do love to share a good story. Really appreciate the fav, friend!
@maggiemae Thanks, Maggiemae. Really appreciate your fun comments. I wore my cape running today and felt like a super hero. I must do that more often!!
@dh Thank you, Delena. I was trying to tell the couple how I was framing myself and realized it sounded ridiculous. So funny!
@sbolden There is no telling where I will go next. Did you see that I finished the wolf off while you were away and perhaps ended the Red Riding Hood series. That was fun! Thanks, Scott!
@jsw0109 Glad I got the crop right. I was a bit unsure wishing that the right wasn't so cropped, but I had to with the line. Thanks for being a muse and keep the ideas coming, because this really worked well. How stinkin' fun!!
@archaeofrog Who knows...they are all oranges to me. Thanks for the love!! I could try square, but I did like the off centeredness here. Thanks, friend!!
@darsphotos I love your words, Darlene. Thanks so much for them and for the kind fav. Thank you!!!
@smellychelli So funny. Sometimes I get this vein that bulges out of my forehead. So glad that that didn't pop up here. What can I say?? I'm an actress and love doing these. It gets my drama fix in;-). Thanks, sweet lady!!
@chezza I love what you said. Thank you, Cheryl!! So much!
@seanoneill Remember how I said I wanted a raspberry beret? Well I found one and used it in this photo. I needed it here you see. Thanks for the encouragement to get one. It was actually at a local store for cheap...under $5!!
@nadaa You are funny!! Thanks, Nada. I did enter my last RRH shot (the one where I was about to murder my husband the wolf) in theme classy. I also entered it into theme not so classy. Really appreciate your fun comments and fav, lady!!!
@sunshinephoto5 We are FB friends, right? Just making sure. Thanks so much for the kind comments and fav, my friend!!
@kwind Thanks so much, Kim. There is nothing like a good story. Really appreciate the fav!
@ozziehoffy Aw, you are the best. This was so fun. Really really appreciate the fav. Never guessed that a sewer tart selfie would do this well. So glad I went back for a decent photo as the first rounds were such rubbish.
@jamibann Thanks so much, Issi. My hubby is all kinds of helpful with my photos...providing ideas for a sewer to use, posing as a wolf, etc. Appreciate the fav so much!
@mzzhope aw, thanks so much for letting me know and for your kind words and fav, Hope!!!
@riverlandphotos Aw, thanks friend!! I didn't want to take the pants off. Everyone should have such pants. I felt like a rock star in them!:)
@rockinrobyn Oooh, that sounds good for the part II!!! Thanks so much, Robyn. Always love it when you pop in. Such fun to pull these off. I've become a bit of an addict with selfies this year.
@rvwalker Thanks, Ross. I had to get sunglasses this season. I loved the big frames. I feel all Hollywood in them. Really appreciate your fun comments!!
@lesip Being a mad woman running is tough, but kinda fun, too. Thanks, lady. Where is your shot? Link?
@calm Really appreciate that, Cathy. Thanks so much!!
@pflaume Lisa, thanks so much. I wanted the beret because to me it was a raspberry beret. I've wanted that for awhile and liked that it added a fun pop of color to the shot.
@eyesmile Thanks so much for your always lovely comments, my friend. Thanks, too, for the kind fav!!!
@rachelm The title was all Jeff and Mary. It was how I kind of got the assignment. It was fun to come up with a sewer tart selfie. I thought about it for a few days...
@anazad511 I like to be. Thanks, Ana. Really appreciate that so much!
@riverlandphotos No they don't. But this one is...or something like that:). At least the sweet bit.
Selfie rock star and cutest sewer tart ever! Love that tart-like pucker and the pop of your raspberry beret ... brilliant use of the pipe as a frame. And your story is icing on an already sweet and clever cake! Fav!
@jo13 Love, love love your sweet comment, Jo. Thanks so much. I love doing this sort of thing...and somehow, there always seems to be quite an adventurous story:).
@wendyhgill Thank you soooo much, my friend. I adore your fabulous comments. You are the best!
@snaggy Love that, Kev. Thanks so much for your great comment and fav.
@steampowered Thanks so much, Paul. I love me some kooky selfies!:) Yesterday I was telling @adamj about his PP and said "PP in the house!!" but then realized that sounded like a potty accident. Gross. PP and sewer just go together I guess. Whodathunkit;-).
I don't seem to be able to master the link thing. My sewer pipe pic is in my 365 album Dec. 3 nowhere near as great as this one. Good luck with your closing today. Congrats on the new home.. Oh what a feeling....
@anzere03 Thanks...it was a 365 friend dare if you will on facebook. A funny thread that turned into a challenge for me. I had to do a sewer tart selfie and this was my take on it.
@seanoneill Thanks so much, my friend. I don't know...it was a Tuesday image, so I may have lost out. I did get 2 fav faves of the week for it from a couple of great photographers so that is honor enough for me!:)
@seanoneill You are usually a pretty good predictor of such things, so we will see. I just thought it was Wed-Wed images so figured I missed out being that this was from last Tuesday. Hope it makes it. Number 1 may be a stretch, but man, how cool would that be? Thanks for the fav, my friend. Did you see I mentioned you in a tag? I looked out for the wanted raspberry beret for this shot. I had mentioned to you wanting one awhile back, I think. Hope you all had a lovely weekend!
This, dear, is quintessential Amanda. I love your spirit, your sense of adventure, your commitment to this community, and your big and giving heart. Thanks for what you do. You rock, girl :-) xox. And of course, fav..
@ericdibosco Thank you...one of the most fun times doing a photo ever, despite the frustration. It was also fun to pick out and put the outfit together. I had a vision and was able to find it all easily.
@bobfoto Did I tell you that I burst a blood vessel in my eye doing this shot?! I guess it was the frenzied dash over the rocks that did it. I went to the doc about it today...I'd been getting a lot of these. I seem fine, but am getting blood work done to be sure.
@amandal - I did notice you were popping vessels of late. I had nothing polite to say at the time, so I chose not to say it. I was gonna chip in with something along the lines of 'hope everything is okay' but figured your doctor would help more than I
@bobfoto Nope, mostly cleared up. When I got engaged my whole eye was bloody. Disgusting. Horrible photos. I'm surprised he still asked. Maybe the next time, I'll take a grody selfie. I'll try to be extra frenzied in the next few days, so we'll bloody well see.
@bobfoto I think that I am going to switch up my profile photo. NYC was so last summer. This one (I don't know, kissy face and all) or the striped one from this week? Quick.
@squamloon Aw, thank you, Jim. I always love a good story and they so frequently tend to happen to me. Makes the photo better, I think! My wolf mask fell out of the basket on the way to take my Dec 31 finishers photo. Someone had to call after me and point it out that I dropped something. It was pretty embarrassing. That and the man who walked by while I was shooting and said, "That will be a great photo." Surely I looked pretty weird.
@m9f9l Yeah, she is rocking it! Who was I kidding, thinking our Tart pics could beat @amandal and her tart pic?haha I am up TOO late tonight, but I am used to staying up until 12 or 1 now after a week of spring break. And I am nervous /anxious about school starting back. I hope to high heavens that I don't get my final observation/evaluation tomorrow. That would be cruel.
@bella_ss Thanks so much, Sharalee. It began as a swipe error by Jeff walker and became a silly selfie idea and a making a fool out of myself time along a public trail. It was one of my best selfies to date. Appreciate the fav:)!
@bill_fe Thanks so much, Bill. I liked how the edit worked out in the end. But this is quite different. Glad that they are so different, makes it less of a redo or something like that:)!
@joemuli Aw, thank you so much, my friend. This one was fun and a bit of an adventure. Plus i made myself look like a total wacko in public just for kicks.
@kt8ird Read the story, sometimes it's the stories that make the shots. Actually, that is probably often the case with me. Did you see what happened to me yesterday at Target? I was in line or being waited on at the return counter, turned around saying "Are you ready my sweetheart?" to my kiddo who had been right around behind me. She was a good distance away but there was a random dude right behind me. "Yes, I am ready" he quipped. I wanted to die!!
@bella_ss I reckon it was one of my best. Lost the drive after this one. At least to go so hardcore for a shot:). I'd forgotten that story. Glad to read it again!! THank you!

@fueast But I did buy the clothes at a well known, cheap, tacky place in the US. Walmart. So maybe that sewers it up a bit;-). Thanks, Alison!

I love this photo! Certainly worth the strife and I love the journal entry that you wrote with it. You are one determined lady!!
