So, I don't typically DO setups. Probably because I mostly seem to stink at them. I can set up a selfie pretty well, but not so much inanimate objects. This worked mostly, but listen to the complete spazz that I was taking the shot. And then you can feel better about yourself.
Firstly, I was a fun mama and let the kids have a can of alphabet spaghetteos that I had picked up at the store impulsively when Clara had begged for them months ago. They wanted something different for lunch for a change and here you go. I loved the fun canned o's when I was a kid. Today, they were all for them. Well the beggar (Clara) ended up hating them and left her almost full bowl. Score for me...a photo op! I tried to think about what I wanted to spell as I went to get a dish to sort the letters in. Bam, the dish flew out of my hand in the cupboard and smashed to the counter top in smithereens. What a mess. Once I had cleaned it up, I came up with this, had to stand ON my table and straddle the plate of food while squatting and standing up and trying to get my frickin' lens to focus. Oh and I hit my head on the light. Who does these things?
A photo freak and a spazz, that's who. Feeling better about you now?
Such a great "snow day" for the kids...we've baked, played hide and seek and I am so easy to find, dang it, we've read and I helped both Lucas and Emily organize and set up their new rooms. Coming together slowly but surely. Love, love unpacking and getting rid of boxes in the rooms.
@rennes Hey, this reminds me of you. I think that I discovered your awesomeness with your similar shot last year. Was it "Don't Play with Food?" or something like that. Wickedly clever, you are:).
LOL. I am surprised you didn't dry to achieve this shot before the kids were allowed to eat them. Lucky you they left some. Well done and thanks for the giggle.
@sewsharyn Trying to be better with photos. I had gotten the o's (let's be honest here) thinking I might try a photo, but then said forgetabout it and gave them to the kids. Thank goodness for a picky eater!!:) I don't often say that! Glad to share a giggle!
Oh you made me laugh............great shot.........instant fav....I am such a photo freak....and a gadget girl....latest acquisition - today I ordered a sound trigger for my flash - I can feel a huge mess coming on!!!
@pixiemac Ooooh, a flash. My built in doesn't work, I want one!!! And then I will need gadgets:). Thanks so much, Sarah!! Tonight, my hubby is picking up our severely overdue new computer. Oh to have space for photos again!:)
@grizzlysghost Well it ain't GNP, but it'll do. Stuck indoors because it is below freezing today. What is up with that?! Thanks, Aaron!!
I had to laugh out loud when I read your story. I can just see it all playing out! What a fun day!
My sister lives in Indy and is going stir crazy with all the bad weather. But she doesn't have any littles left at home to distract her. Just some wimpy dogs who refuse to walk on the snow and ice. :)
the behind the screens story sounds so familiar lol what at first seems so easy can really turn into a project... well you are so right "The Life Of A PHOTO FREAK".
Really fun and creative shot. Great POV and comp!! Good add idea for the product! Must have taken awhile to find all those letters. Does bring back memories. Sounds like a fun day filled with laughter...hope everyone sleeps good tonigh!!
I love your description of how this was taken. I usually end up putting the dish on the floor and standing over it, after shutting the dog out of the room of course. I'd go for a set up shot over a selfie any day.
@bobfoto Kept my toes out so that I would accidentally crop em. Thank you!!
@kevin365 Love that, Kevin. Thanks so much for your kind words and fav. Guess what? I was out shooting the same bench that I had used in fall covered in snow. My shot was so lacking and so not as good as fall. This time I had the whole family with me and the ground was all covered in snow so I didn't get the best pov. Probably not even worth the post. Bummer. Maybe I will try again another snow day.
wonderful fun story ~ yes i do things like this too! ~ but I have learnt to put the things on the floor now, and stand above them so the camera focuses :-) ... besides I can't get up onto work tops any longer ~ its no good for me knees!
@alisonp Shoot, floor...why didn't I think of that. I did like the lighting on the table, though and the novelty of standing on the table. Floor next time. Thanks, ladies!!! @dh
@eyesmile Ironically, it was quick. I used to play scrabble a lot. I looked at the bowl and saw the letters for photo or most of them right away and fished em out. Probably 5 minutes tops. thanks so much for the great comments and fav, sweet friend!!
That snow day DOES sound great. Did this batch of Spaghetti O's hit the countertop and you had to scrape it up? haha! And to answer your question..."yes, some of us do those things." I know I do.
@espyetta Luckily just the extra plate I was getting to put the spaghetti-o's on. So just ceramic shattering mess, not food. Yes, I suppose many of us are nutso like this for a shot. So funny to imagine what we look like sometimes. Thanks, friend!!
Fav for so many reasons.
1. The photo: great capture, set up and execution
2. Spaghetteos! I lived on Spam and Spaghetteos for about 2 years when I was much younger, living on my own. My doctor thinks my stomach should be studied for medical science.
3. Now....the fact that so many bad misfortunes befell you, I empathize. But at the same time, love that it happened to you. Two reasons:
A. You allowed so many people, including me, thankful to know we're not the only ones who has these things happen to them. That photography can be dangerous, not only to the photographer, but to others around, strangers in the vicinity, and even inanimate objects.
B. You still managed to get the photo, and brilliant one on top of it.
Awesome! This photo should make #1 on the top 20. Great shot.
@losthorizon You are the BEST. Thank you for your wonderful comments, fav and friendship. So so glad that I am not the only moronic klutz and crazy table standing photographer around. And wowie, did you really eat that crap for 2 years? Poor tummy!!
@gailmmeek Sometimes I've just gotta share the back story. It tends to make the shot that much better. Yes, the things we do... Yesterday was great, today is off for them again and I am done! Ready for normal life again. 2+ weeks off this time of year is a lONG time!!! Thanks, Gail!!!
@cbartistry Thanks, lady. Appreciate the follow:)!!
@losthorizon P.S. I used to eat spaghette-o's, too. They were a fun treat. I kinda wanted them with the kids, but one can for all of us was not enough so I had a yogurt instead. Thanks so much again. I was not judging you above by the way.:)
@kevin365 I want more. I'm not sick of snow shots yet. We've only had it for 3 weeks tops at this point. I'd be up for another week or two. Snow is photogenic:).
@johnl Almost. I wasn't going to do it, til my kid left her whole bowl of the stuff and I thought what the hell. When I looked at the letters trying to figure out what to spell, I saw most of the letters for photo quickly and went with it. Photo Freak works and I think that most can relate. Thanks, John!
@mzzhope Love that I could bring you a giggle today. Thanks for sharing a laugh, Hope!!!:)
@darsphotos Love that you said that. Thanks so much, Darlene. I just had to share the backstory. It has a way of making the photo that much better, I think:).
@summerfield Don't die, but glad to give you a laugh. I so wish I had spelled fav somewhere in the letters as a subliminal thing. Next time. I was thinking a pasta letter series could be fun:). Thank you!!!
@amandal photo walk was good. Afternoon meeting didn't produce what I wanted and they are trying to find someone else to refer me to. So no progress and then I have been awake since two stressing. Going to be a long day :(
Whoa.....No worries Amanda. Didn't take that any way other then funny. LOL. For the Spaghetteos and Spam, yes...and very poorly made garlic bread. LOL.
@amandal LOL.....yep...same recipe. I always managed to burn the toast. Or when sprinkling the garlic on, either I'd misjudge and put too much or the cap would pop off mid-sprinkle and cover the whole slice. Of course, you have to try one bite right? Whoooooooo
@amandal No no no....no one in the house except my oldest will let me near the kitchen. Jack loves my scrambled eggs, so I'm allowed to make that, but only under the condition that the fire department is notified first. :)
@losthorizon At least you are an emt, right? Hope your wife cooks. How funny. I am pretty good at eggs, too. One of my specialties. And I am not too shabby in the kitchen. Wish I had spent more time learning from my mom when I was a kid, though.
@losthorizon And luckily she is a quick phone call away and even local when I need a recipe or don't know what I am doing. That doesn't happen much anymore but did when I first left home. And yeah for a good wife/mama cook for you all!! No garlic bread, you hear?
@wind_of_the_sothern_sea I was thinking a spaghetti word series might be fun. Thanks so much, Arefin. Hats off to you for your set ups...they are tough to do and so unnatural for me. The back story was pretty funny. Are your shoots so idiotic or do you have it down better?;-)
@gazbadger In looking at it now, I wished that I had cleaned the slop off the plate and maybe kept the spoon clean, too. Next time, I'll be neater and maybe not hit my head on the light. Sheesh. Thanks so much, my friend!!
@rennes I had tagged you earlier in the week. Maybe I got the name typoed?! Thanks!! You inspired this with your cool shot last year. I think that is when I first saw you around:). Thanks, my friend. And happy weekend to you!!!
@monkeykid Thanks so much, lady. I noticed your shots in the where you came from thread the other day and man, what a difference your time on here made. Love how we learn and grow doing this. Thanks again!
Congratulations on another TT. I love it when a quirky shot like this gets a lot of comments. They are bound to be really entertaining, and I loved your cooking banter with Beau @lasthorizon. I too have problems in the kitchen, and am probably the only person in history to set an apple pie on fire.
@m9f9l Because the confession makes the photo that much better. You know. I feel like I miss out when I don't hear the back story. And my back stories are so often NUTS. I wonder if that is the case with most others or is it just me? How blah would just a spaghetti words photo have been, anyway?;-). P.S. Love that I crack you up!!!
@rvwalker You set a pie on fire?! WOWIE, man, that's awesome. Thanks, Ross. I so love when my quirky is appreciated. And I so enjoy the fun banter with my friends on here. Again, glad to share the TT honor with you this week!!
@rvwalker HA...did you douse the bag in lighter fluid?! Yeah, a truckers cookbook should have told you something;-). So funny. Did you get a photo of the charred mess? Was it edible still, just extra crispy?
@amandal Not edible, thanks to the fire extinguisher. No pictures, either. I didn't want any evidence of arson. You wouldn't believe how good hot pads burn, but that's another story.
@rvwalker Oh man, I hate ruining hot pads. The ones I used regularly are somehow burned and I typically burn myself using them. Don't remember how that happened and I really should buy some new ones! Sheesh!
@jyokota Somedays I do, and others I am feeling my age (or the effects of having 3 kids). Thanks so much, my friend. I so love to share the stories (almost more than the photo or at least equally as much!).
@kareenking Thanks so much, sweet lady!! Glad you got a laugh...I sure did, too!:)
@jyokota I blogged years ago (then I had my 3rd kid and stopped). I want to write. I yearn to write. This year, I plan to start a book. Just haven't decided what it will be yet. 365 has become my blog and my writing outlet.
THIS WAS AN AWESOME IDEA! my respects to you for all that you had to go through just to get it. It was TOTALLY WORTH IT, though. never get tired of seeing your pictures!
@bill_fe Sorry for the prank tag. Here you go...it's above. The one and only time I've done well with food photography. This morning I gave it another go (food) and may post to cover up today's hideousity.
@amandal So many comments on this one. I had to search for my name. I recognized this when I got here. I did comment and you replied to it way back then.
@bill_fe Ok, this was my example of standing over it, but it was during the day and I have table light on, too. I just tagged your name, posted then deleted and retagged with my words.
@fueast :)))
@jamibann I LOVE making you smile. Thanks, Issi!!!
nomnomnom
@cathrinemitch Hugs for that. Thank you!
Nicely done.
Sounds like a nice day!
@grizzlysghost Well it ain't GNP, but it'll do. Stuck indoors because it is below freezing today. What is up with that?! Thanks, Aaron!!
@cazink Aw, thanks, kind Carly!!!
@joeyc So appreciate that, sweet lady!!! Loved your shot today!!!
@lynnz Thanks so much for that, Lynn.

Love the shot too!

Sounds like you had a great day with the kids - that's what counts.
@mcmary Thanks, Mary!!

@alia_801 True words. Thanks, Alia!!
@vickisfotos I'm sure mine thinks it;-). Thanks, Vicki!!!
@thirtysevenways Glad to give you a smile. And you gave me one, too. Thanks for the fav, my friend. How was yesterday? Was that photowalk day?
@ruthmouch Oh of course. Thanks for your comments, Ruth!!
@summerfield Don't die, but glad to give you a laugh. I so wish I had spelled fav somewhere in the letters as a subliminal thing. Next time. I was thinking a pasta letter series could be fun:). Thank you!!!
@homeschoolmom Thank you sooo much, Lisa!!
@eyesmile Great idea. I want to do more with the pasta letters. My mind is cranking. Thanks so much, Gena!!
@mikeable Next time, you take the backstory photos...should you be home. Thanks, Mike!!!
@chelmck Aw, it will be so much fun to play with him in it. My kiddos love the snow! Thanks, lady!
@friend2303 Aren't we all?! Glad to make you chuckle, my friend. Mission accomplished:).
@janpenny Aw, thanks, Jan. Just what I hoped for:)!!

@paulaw @egad @malc Thanks so much, my friends!!
How long did it take you to fish out those letters? lol
@twr Thank you, Timothy!
@whatsfordessert Aw, thanks so much!!
Great story.
@sassyinma I think that the photo is pretty fun, but it's always better with a good story. That's my motto anyway. Thanks, Sandi. Glad you can relate.
@bill_fe Nope:). Thanks, Bill.
: ))
@danitech @roseolivia @taffy Thanks so much, pretty ladies!! Appreciate the congrats:)!
@sjouk Thanks, Sjouk. Really appreciate that!
