This tire swing is at an abandoned house close to where my parents live. I've featured it in my project before, just the swing and another time or two with a kid in it. Michael suggested that I try it out for selfies.
So this week, I had a free bit of time in the morning sans kids while they were at VBS and I decided to try out the requested tire swing selfie (I take requests if you have any ideas or suggestions). I even got a cute new to me, thrift sundress for the occasion.
The shoot went rather awkwardly as the best pov I could get with the tripod was me facing a busy road (otherwise a big sign was in the shot), the swing was tough to gracefully get in and out of in a dress (and I may have flashed the road briefly upon exiting once...oops), it was hard to be moving and be in focus, and the weather was rather skitzophrenic, going from sunny to cloudy to rainy all while I was shooting. All things considered, I got some halfway decent shots and I am relatively happy about how it came out once processed. Maybe not exactly what I had in mind, but it works. I'm considering taking down the swing and relocating it to my yard. Is that awful? But then I could take some more shots without a road of traffic watching me. And it is at an empty house not being used.
Thankfully, no one hooted, honked, stopped or bothered me in any way. Shew. But I still felt kinda idiotic swinging, and grinning and clicking and posing all facing a busy road. Oh the things we do for a photo.
Happy Summer to all you above the equator! Happy Weekend to everyone!
@almondjoy1 I gotta admit, I was a little worried about what lurked inside. It was wet in there, too. Just tried to plaster on a grin and get er done:). Thanks, Miss Joy!!
@newbank The stories sometimes make the shots better somehow. LOVE a good story. And somehow I've always got one:). You will too, should you try a selfie:).
and that's the reason we need a wingman when we do selfies outside of the home - so we don't feel idiotic. i feel idiotic enough when doing it at home. with you young people, what would the passersby think: ah, youth these days! but if they see an old hag doing selfies, they'd probably think "what medication is she on!!!" :-) frankly, i couldn't care, but i live in the city with crazy people left and right and my concern really is some punk grabbing my gears and running away with it.
@summerfield Most are. Love it when people say best viewed small about crappy shots. So funny. I'm in the middle, not youth and not an old hag. I wonder what they thought...what a vain woman...taking her own photo? Who knows. Thanks, friend!!!
Gorgeous as usual!what stories that swing could tell! Oh..and um...for my sake,there has to be some other choice between middle and old hag! Mid hag..or..pre hag,maybe ? ;)
the fav is for both the shot and your dedication too it - wonderful narrative and you look exactly as you should on a swing enjoying the ride so a smiley sticky for fabulous acting under difficulty - yay!
Okay, love the editorial of the shot. You even posed the flip flops. I was just thinking that I would love to find an old time swing to shoot. Your daughters picture is adorable. small and crappy bahahaha.........going to take a look at it BIG on black.
What a great shot and love your explanation of how you managed to take it. You make me laugh and I love your writing. You would never know you are facing a busy road. FAV
It's a fav! You certainly are the expert at selfies. Wonderful composition with the country scene in back and you look as free as a bird and posed perfectly. Also, I love the one of your daughter taken last year.
How much fun is this??? A fabulous, fun capture! And I love the one of your daughter. Fav'ing both because they look so neat together. And, yes, I would take the tire swing..so much better to have it with you to enjoy rather than it being abandoned!
@cocobella I so do...thank you!
@andrewkru Thanks, Andrew...that was what I was going for.
@thresheg Really appreciate that, Graham!!
