This was a reenactor on the Mayflower II that we toured in Plymouth, MA. She and her fellow Mayflower maiden told riddles to the children and answered our questions about the pilgrims and the Mayflower.
My family can trace our roots back to the Mayflower. We were some of the pilgrims and first Americans, so this maiden and her story meant more to me.
I processed this to make it appear more like a painting by one of the great masters. I was quite pleased with the result.
Interesting story and how cool to be able to trace your family back to the Mayflower! I think mine goes back to convicts, lol. Great shot and processing, the lighting really helps with the aged look.
Amanda, I, too, can trace my family back to the time of the Revolution. We didn't come over on the Mayflower but are prominently etched in stone in cemeteries. This is great!
Very cool capture. I love the re-enactors. When we visited Mayflower II we went below and I commented that with the low ceiling you needed a hard hat. Of course the reenactor said, "Hard hat? What is that?" I realized what he was doing and I said that it was like wearing a pot on your head. And he replied, why would you do that?
What an interesting shot, a piece of history recorded. The mood is mysterious with the subtle light and I feel like I would have been thrown back in time.
You did so well in capturing this scene that really takes us back in time. Family history is so interesting - I've spent the last 14 years tracing all members of our family and am amazed at the connections.
It is so lovely and what a sweet history story. So nice to have the interaction with the children too. The lighting is great and the colors seem so appropriate for the time.
We really enjoyed our trip to Plymouth some years back and I remember visiting the Plantation with all the people dressed in costume and completely in character. Was such an interesting place. Think we also went whale watching from there too which was amazing. Great shot and you have definitely made it look like an old painting.
What a fabulous photo, Amanda. Love your processing. The detail is amazing and makes me feel like I am sitting there. Love the history of your family. How cool is that. FAV
@panthora Adore your comment...just the look I was going for. Like the woman with the pearl earring:).
