The Last Shot of the Amateur Wildlife Photographer

Least it was a pretty cool pov.

This slithering dude was in my driveway today.

I ran and got my camera after Mike pulled out his phone and started snapping shots. Since he wasn't struck and killed, I figured it was probably safe.

Then the thing got sick of me playing papparazzi and came right at me. Eeek. Ok, man, I'll stop already.

Turns out it is a milk snake and a type of constrictor. I think he was coming over to give me a big hug. Didn't stick around long to find out, though.

Such a cool week of wildlife around home...saw bunches of chipmunks, a raccoon on the back deck, a woodchuck along the road, a rabbit across the street, and a deer jump a 5' fence. Super cool spottings!!!

And here is a little perspective on this scary beast's size: http://365project.org/amandal/themes-challeng/2015-05-17 (he's really tiny, merely a babe strangler).

Thanks for getting this shot on the PP:).
yikes... run

May 18th, 2015
Wow - ! I think I prefer my safe environment where the only wild thing is my husband! (he only gets wild if I make him run round the house naked!)
May 18th, 2015
@maggiemae hahahaha!!!
May 18th, 2015
Great shot, great story, glad you survived. The world would be a dull place without you to brighten it.

May 18th, 2015
gorgeous!! I don't mind snakes. . spiders send me into fits of hysteria.
May 18th, 2015
My first word was S%@t!!!!! I HATE snakes!! Although this one is pretty, he would still be a dead one if he was in our yard!! We don't kill the non poisonous ones and don't have any that hug you, so they would be ok, but we have all kids of poisonous ones, so the only good snake is a dead one!! I do have to say this is pretty and I also have to say my first word!!! FAV!
May 18th, 2015
Great focus and DoF. It has such beautiful markings!
May 18th, 2015
What a beautiful snake and so my cup of tea love your PoV
May 18th, 2015
What a shot! Love how his curves just fade out of focus, giving the feeling that he sort of goes on forever, which I'm glad he doesn't. No matter wether one likes snakes or not, they usually startle us when we first see them. At least that's the way it is for me. Brave capture, Amanda.

These are two really neat views of this snake - like the whole view and the close-up is great - husband a bit braver than I am. I'm a good zoom person with snakes!
May 19th, 2015
@milaniet Me, too. I had on my 35mm lens originally, switched to a 15-55 and thought, nah, I am not getting in there that close. This was with a 55-200...that was helpful:).
