We have a birthday in the house today. My Emily is 9 years old. I've been the mom of a girl for 9 years now.
Her brother came first and when I heard the doctor announce "It's a girl!" I was so excited. I wanted a daughter badly.
This kid is a piece of work. She's perhaps my hardest. But she loves the hardest, too. Sheer intensity. I like it best when I am on the love side of that intensity.
Celebrating her today and feeling a little sad at the prospect of her being halfway to adulthood. She could be gone from our home in just 9 short years. I still have so much to teach.
Love my girl. So blessed to be her mom. She stretches and challenges me.
@carla42 I think you are right. You are a monkey in the middle, too? I'm a first born and we were a family of two kids so I don't get the middle kid thing so much. Thanks, Carla!!
@amandal Yup. Middle of 3 girls too, born quite close together. It's not everything but I'd say it's a factor that shapes your character. Don't worry though we grow out of it. Is your daughter artistic, a performer? x
@carla42 She's a writer and a drama queen...not into drama yet (like performance), but she'll be great at it. She is pretty artistic, too. Very creative. And gosh she is so loving.
o we're so similar. I'll bet she'll be a fab actress. Having such emotional range can be really hard for a kid I must have driven my mum absolutely bonkers. We've always been so close though. I'm sure it's the same for you and Emily @amandal

Happy, happy birthday, Emily.....I hope your day was full of laughter and joy!! And, Amanda, you already know this, but the ones that are the toughest and most challenging are also the ones that give back the most....and, you are obviously, on the receiving end!! Enjoy your little Emily....she is a cutie!
