Were he born on a leap year, it would be Lucas' birthday today. But he was born on a regular year and was a March 1st baby.
Yesterday, I took my family back to the nature center, hoping that the frogs were still out at the pond. It was such an incredible phenomenon and I heard it was really limited...only a week or two.
We hiked there to see NO frogs. We heard a few, but none were visible in the water or at the shore. How strange that less than a week ago the place was literally hopping!
So tomorrow Lucas turns 11. We had his birthday slumber party this weekend. It was a fun time with all his favorite foods, 2 best friends over, a movie night with Ghostbusters (classic 80s:), and even a couple games of laser tag where his mom rocked it with her mad skills. I came in first for our team and third of 31 people. Maybe photography helps me to be a better shooter:).
Yesterday on the hike, Lucas was miserable. All he wanted was to be home with his best friend (our next door neighbor). We had said no to bringing him along as we were partied out.
I was bummed that Lucas was acting that way, but then Michael responded me that this was probably the new norm. As kids grow up they want less and less to be with their families and more and more want to be with their friends. Dang it.
Looking forward to celebrating the actual big day tomorrow...when I will have been a mom for 11 years.
Oh and I don't know if you can tell, but Lucas is jumping here. Not very high, but leaping none the less.
A lovely composition - a lovely tree in the centre with great out reaching roots on the surface . I thought perhaps Lucas was jumping for joy .. perhaps not !! but at least a leap for leap year day :-)
It does change as they get older, but it's just different, I find. I long to 'mother' both of mine again, but I have to back off - our son in particular! They're 20 and 22, after all, but they still want to come home to mum whenever there's an issue of any sort! Lovely photo of birthday boy Lucas!
