Leaving the nest before their time. Or maybe not the human kids...aren't they staying home way longer now? But this sweet downy, funny haired robin, on the other hand, he off in the big world early seeming.
He was just sitting there in the grass, still, blinking.
The kids gathered around him. We pet him ever so gently, prayed for him. I said it was all we could do, but Emily suggested one of us eat a worm, chew it up and spit it in his mouth. No one was willing.
Not sure if he was ok. A bit later, he hopped and fluttered off and we haven't seen him since.
Praying the sweet thing is fine. Sweet baby bird may you fly away home!
Before our "back door" tree died from an insanely cold winter a few years ago, we had a robins nest every year, and I always loved watching the babies grow. One year I even got to witness (and video!) the last one taking his first flight! As they wait for mommy and daddy, they are so incredibly patient. And they wait, and wait, for their parent to come retrieve them, luring them on with treats, encouraging them to follow and fly. It's really quite a touching scene. That little guy appears to be as fully mature as the ones ready to fly. Betting mom and dad were watching and waiting. How neat you guys got to pray over him! Wonder how many robins have blessed quite like that!
