Tortuga Thursday

I spotted this camouflaged turtle only because of the red on his ear.

Yesterday, I saved a teeny tiny baby turtle that I saw trying to cross a busy road. I saw it, two big trucks went by and all I could do was pray for it's safety. When the coast was clear, I got it out of the road and took it back to the lake that I assumed was it's home. It was cool to feel like a hero. But then I realized, maybe I made turtle mad...bringing him back to the lake. He was crossing the road to get away from the lake. Maybe his girlfriend is on the other side. My thoughts were if he crossed, he'd only come back home and perhaps get hit on the way back.

Sometimes you can't win. I'm feeling that way about the election. I think that is what has been causing my anxiety and sleeplessness. I will be glad when this is all over and hope and pray our country will be in good hands come January. I'm not so fond of any of the choices of hands, but may the very best of the hands win.
tortured thoughts about turtle's motives - i have same issue rescuing chameleons - i was once hit by an old man trying to escort him across a road when he actually just wanted to stay in the middle making a nuisance of himself :o) lovely shot - i personally find natures greens very hard to look interesting

A great capture - but what a dilemma --lets hope your decision was fruitful and you saved the little turtle --may it be till his next foolish move !

What great textures! I have rescued a number of turtles out of the road... I once read you should always put the turtle in a safe zone in the direction he (she) is headed. Of course, I may have gotten that info from Facebook posts... such a reliable source! Ha!

Nicely captured. And I share your view on the state of our union. God be with us.

Terrific shot and this particular turtle. All anyone can do is their best and it sounds like you did at least try the rest of it is up to someone else.

That's kind of how I feel about the elections too. All we can really do is our best in the rest of it is up to someone else.

I can't believe this turtle has all those growths on it just like the log its on! He certainly can't scratch them off! So glad you took the turtle back - obviously they have no road sense!

I've *never* seen a red-eared slider so well camouflaged!!! You really had the baby's interest's at heart, but I understand the conflict! Absolute years ago I was driving through Oklahoma, and there were turtles everywhere crossing the highway! I was with my mother who stopped again and again and I gathered several to bring home with me to Arizona where I was already raising turtles and tortoises! In recent years I saved one crossing a road up here, and, thinking fast, took it to a friend with a large pond on is property (well off the road!) I think I posted a photo "back when" but I can't recall what year!

What a great shot, Amanda. I love what you did for the turtle. It will figure out where it needs to be. I feel the same about the election too. I hope for the very best for our country come January and the next four years. FAV
