Under Cincinnati

Mike and I just enjoyed 2 days kids free. It was so nice to sleep in, to hear no complaints about food, to just have time together for a change.

We didn't do much, but did do a downtown Underground Cincinnati tour that was quite fascinating yesterday.

Visited the crypt in an early church where some of Cincinnati's earliest residents were buried and also the recently found old beer tunnels under a long gone brewery. A huge german neighborhood all but went under as a result of WWI and Prohibition and these tunnels were forgotten until a man bought the building about 10 years ago and saw the original blueprints and took a jackhammer to the floor.

Super fascinating to learn the colorful history of our town.
So interesting and I really like the lighting.

We've done that too. It was weird how you enter from a hole in the floor of a building.

So fun to have time together, without having to worry about kids for a change -- much as you love them! Your capture here says just that . . . exploring on my own!

Wow...how fascinating. I get rather claustrophobic so wouldn't cope but very interesting to see how others enjoy this kind of thing!

@yogiw Wasn't that nuts...a hole made by a jackhammer. It was pretty stinkin' cool. Crazy how much Prohibition and WWI affected the town. Pretty sad.

@alophoto Yes, it’s so cool, I couldn’t believe how big those tunnels were. This city was beer central!!

could be a cover for a horror movie poster !

@yogiw I can't believe back in the day even the kids drank beer because the water was unsafe. Nutty. Glad to live in our times (though they are far from perfect, too!).
