Very interesting. Mom looks like a blue-winged teal. I have never seen blue-winged teal babies, but they look quite a bit like mallard babies in this photo. You have sent me down an ID rabbit hole!
Oh, I just noticed that this was at Seney. Probably a ring-necked duck then. I see the faint white ring now near the end of the bill. There aren't many photos of them with babies on the internet. If you have an ebird account you could post this bird (with photo) as an incidental sighting on that date just to get the picture out there as a service.
@annepann thanks for the information. Usually I try to have an ID for what I am posting but I was lost on this. Thought they looked like mallard ducklings too, but knew mom wasnât a mallard. I believe you are correct with the ring-necked duck ID.
