This time of the year, with so much rain, these grasshoppers multiply like crazy. Unfortunately they love my Crinum Lily plants, and it's so difficult to fight them.
Their name is Black Devil Grasshopper.
@swguevin - Yes Sheila, they have quiet an "artistic" design. I took the shot with a macro lens, and I was about 5" away from them. They ignored me... LOL. Thanks a lot for your comment.
@anazad511 We get these creepy ones here in SA that are about 12cm large and covered in a thick armour looking skin... and did I mention that when I was about 13 I got one crawling up my back (under my dress on my bare skin) and it came out my sleeve.... I still get the creeps thinking back of it! :-/
@victorypuzzle Oh Dominique, I am sure it was not a fun episode... You have all the right not to like them. These ones are not as large, maybe half the size.
@gerry - Thank you Gerry. I need to admit that I had all the time in the world to take this shot, since they couldn't care less about my presence... LOL. Thanks a lot for your comment and visit.
@danette - Thanks a lot. Glad you got a good laugh. @tonygig - Yes, these grasshoppers were beautifully "designed". Thank you, Tony. @yonnie - Thank you Yvonne for your comment and FAV; I really appreciate it. I was really close to these fellows. @rmkgreene - You made me think... yes, I have seen some minors in the project... LOL. Thanks for your comment.

"togetherness" "privacy" "action" are all words that come to mind. Sorry if I crossed the line. Thanks for your visit and comments.
@marlboromaam - Maggie, I have tried all type of heavy duty exterminators, and at the end they tell me that the only thing that finishes with them is the shoe... :( If you know of anything, please let me know. Thanks for your feedback. Always appreciated.
@grannysue - Sooorrryyyy Linda, they should had looked for a private place. I was in front of them, and they couldn't care less... These youngsters nowadays don't have any respect for the elders. Thank you for your understanding.
So funny!! Grasshopper fun is right.
Remove you? Crazy lady. I love you and your work. I have been out of town helping my son buy a house - so busy that I never took my computer out of the case. Used my point and shoot a little. Nice to be missed!
@pyrrhula - that could had been a good title for this shot: multiplication... LOL. BTW I uploaded some pictures of my visit to Groningen in my Album #3, that I think you would enjoy.
@nanalisarocks - thank you Lisa. It's a nice feeling to make it to the PP, and it's thanks to the support that I have received from many of you. Wish you a nice weekend.
@beba8162 - Thank you very much Roberta; I appreciate your comment and visit. It's a good feeling to make it to the PP, and it's definitely due to the wonderful support from many of you.
Oh my word Anazad great photo & all that detail & clarity !!! I took a photo tonight of some cow parsley & there were two insect things at it on there too, I didn't see them till I uploaded !!!
A fave by the way. I was interested in your camera as this has such a clear macro lens. I want to buy a DSLR camera but not pay too much as I mainly just have my P&S in my pocket but would like to use different lenses sometimes. Some of the newest cameras are very expensive but yours a bit more what I am looking for. Do you like it Anazad or would you upgrade if you could?
@happypat - Thanks for your nice comment and FAV. I really appreciate it.
Re: my camera. I am happy with it (of course there is always space for improvement... LOL). I have a Canon Rebel T1i and this shot was taken with a macro lens EF-S 60mm. I also have a zoom and lately a wide-angle. I also carry a small P&S in my purse for any "emergency"... I have many things in my wish list, but I need to be patient.
Great close-up Ana! I don't know if there's anything you can do to stop them. I know slugs will crawl into beer and drown, but maybe there's something like that for grasshoppers. You might try the internet or your local garden center for ideas. Excellent shot!
Spectacular macro! I know they do some much damage to the crops, but your photo of them is so cool! And as a science teacher, I always think it's just part of the life cycle! :)

@rmkgreene - You made me think... yes, I have seen some minors in the project... LOL. Thanks for your comment.
@carolmw - Thank you Carol, I am glad you liked it.
@wannabe - Oh Catherine, you are funny. These circumstances give place to misinterpretation... LOL
@myautofocuslife - I was able to get really close to them, so it allowed me to get a lot of detail.
@mejbronant - Definitely, I was completely ignored... LOL.

I always wonder how people who are not following me are able to find my shots.
My deep appreciation for all your comments, and the FAVs, that have made it to the PP.
