Another trip to the State Hospital grounds, luckily no one asked me to leave today. This is one of the few remaining buildings that has not been converted into state offices. I looked in some windows and it was rather creepy but cool. I tried to find out some history of the building but this is all I found.
Bancroft Building
Built in 1892 Bancroft provided additional space on the female side of the asylum and in part provided more ample, comfortable and private accommodations than previously available. Bancroft Building was modeled after buildings in Europe, which provided a more homelike, domestic appearance.
This is a great looking building -- looks like a good place to go for a "rest". Hopefully it was indeed a place of rest and regrouping and NOT a place of mental torture or abuse.
