Avroplane 1909

photo 137
The 1909 Avroplane with a wingspan of 20ft was built by A V Roe in Putney.
It had triplane wings and tailplane and a forward propeller powered by a 6hp JAP engine.
It was the first British plane to fly and the inset photo - which I did NOT take - shows it doing so at Walthamstow Marshes.
This photo is of the replica in Manchester Museum of Science and Industry.

Brill shot! My Mum and Dad worked at AV Roe in Manchester - in fact, they met there! :)

The blues and yellow work well in the shot. Nice history.
