Glastonbury Tor by andycoleborn

Glastonbury Tor

Spent the weekend in Somerset as a little treat for me and my girlfriend. Not only does this weekend mark 2 years together, but is the mid point between my birthday last weekend, and hers next weekend.

After an early start, we reached Cheddar Gorge at lunchtime for a walk through the caves and to take in the sites of the 650 million year old gorge. Wonderful scenery. Then it was onto Wells, the UK's smallest city (really a village but it has a Catherdral hence city status) then it was onto Glastonbury.

This is Galstonbury Tor. It sits high above the plains and is a bit of a hike from the town. I made the walk up alone - my girlfriend stayed in the car, hiding from the fields, the pollen and the hay fever...

Superb views...

The tower has quite a bit of a mythical history - click here for details http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glastonbury_Tor
Great - never seen it up close - just mysteriously perched atop a hill from a distance. Nice sky.

Oh, what fun to see this, Andy! I just finished reading "Excaliber" by Andy McDermott yesterday afternoon. One of the locales of the plot takes place at this site. How wonderful to see the real thing in your photos!! :-)
