Took this photo in Rippleside Cemetery, Barking, as I waited for my car to fail it's MOT this afternoon. I was messing about with some of the camera's pre-set options - this was taken using the silhouette mode with the sun behind me. It's completely untouched apart from a tiny crop.
The cemetery is jam-packed with thousands of graves. Some marvelous gravestones dotted about, including this fairly prominant piece. What is amazing though, is the amount of people who die young!
Looking at the grass, you can tell this is the driest year for nearly 100 years! Hose-pipe ban soon....
As for my bloody car! Failed on brakes and lights. Now I'm sure there was nothing worng with my lights yesterday, but today they don't work. Re-booked for brakes tomorrow (Gonna cost a couple of hundred!!) as for the lights, I changed the bulbs but they still ain't working.. Hmmm seems a sudden wiring problem has cropped up!
Now, I'm not casting aspersions on Kwick Fit, but mighty strange how there's suddenly a problem!
Do you recall the dates on the big one? It makes one wonder about who that person was in life....I think that is the fanciest "gravestone" I've ever seen. Awesome shot!!
Very nice photo, almost looks like a stetch. Great colours, and they suit the subject.
Kwik Swiz are horrid.. good luck. Checked the fuse? Thats always my second after the bulbs now, lol.
Great photo of the cemetery, I think these gravestones have a lot of character. Our cemeteries here are not allowed to have headstones, they are supposed to give a park like atmosphere. I like the headstones though, it makes the cemetery have an eerie look. Sorry to hear about the car, too.
This is an amazing cemetery...great capture, andy.
(p/s : dread going to car workshop...always burn a hole in the wallet..(a rather big one too). Always seems like you go to repair 'A' & it end up with an additional 'B & C'. Well, just blame them to soothe our "loss"...lol)
Wow guys - mnay, many thanks for all your great comments. And Nicole - some great geneology work there... well done :-). It's always really interesting to read up on the lives and history of people is it.
Thanks again...
