Harvest Time by andycoleborn

Harvest Time

This year we tried our hand at growing some food... lettuce, cabbage, radish, chili and tomatoes. We've been quite successful and have enjoyed loads of free, fresh and home grow produce all summer and now have tons of tomatoes to scoff.

The chili and tomatoes were grown from seed and it's been great watching them sprout, then re-planting them, watering and feeding them all summer. At first there didn't seem to be any sign they'd produce anything to eat but suddenly both the chili and tomatoes sprang into life and are covered in veg (ok, ok, tomato is a fruit but you know what I mean...)

So far the cherry tomatoes have been in abundance whilst the bigger boys are slightly behind, with just one big'un ripe enough to pick...

Am quite pleased how it's gone and I'm already looking forward to growing more next year.

As for my day, we went to some of my girlfriends' friends who are also from Calcutta in the evening for a meal and, as is typical Indian hospitality, they produced far too much food .. Completely stuffed and bloated but everyhting was delish... especially the pomfet in mustard sauce..
Those are nice looking tomatoes Andy. We use to have a garden but we travel so much during the summer now we do not have time for the upkeep.

Home grown tomatoes...so jealous. The flavor is so amazing when just picked. The photo makes me hungry, nicely done.

Mmmm, I would be happy to take some of that! That's really neat you're able to grow your own too--really satisfying!
