As mention yesterday, I intend to spend some time this week getting to know my new 50mm lens, learning how to get the focus right and getting the shot I want in the first few shots - as opposed to the bundles I was taking a few days back....
So here's tonight's shot - a close up of a radio controlled (real) fuel powered 0.49 interceptor... A present from my brother-in-law from his trip to the States when I was about 9 or 10... I can't tell you how cool this was when all my mates just had footballs and bikes....
I remember playing with it back in the day - it was proper loud and fast!!! I haven't had it running for about 25 years but despite leaving home 21 years ago and living in a dozen or more places, it's always moved with me as I've always intended to give it a go and see if I can get it running again...
I've also noticed this is probably the brightest photo I've shot for months!!!
Going to be an interesting day at work tomorrow - I have to do a disciplinary investigation on a colleague, interviewing my first lot of witnesses tomorrow afternoon....
@andifree thanks - yeah, just about got it on the goodyear logo.. Oh yeah, we have to notify the person they are being investigated so they can prepare themselves... Meeting him next week..
Hi Andy, You must have been a popular kid....I have a 50mm 1;1.8 and i cant get to grips at all with it, but then i did not read the manual, which i am told is a motrtal sin...
I see I'm not the only one who thinks the nifty fifty is tricker than I thought LOL! This is great Andy :D Good luck with your investigation- it sure doesn't sound like fun!
Nice to have a keepsake such as this to take along with you. This is a proper perfect photo!! :) I just love the words you use. I take it that "bundles" means not so good? I wouldn't call them that at all. I hope tomorrow goes okay!
I find it so fascinating how English English isn't really the same as American English. I want to start to use some English slang like you do because it's much more interersting than Amercian slang. hehe!
@mrssmith Ha Ha... think that will confuse your students :-).. Although on this subject, I think because we are inundated with US tv/films, American terms are very familiar to us in the UK, whereas from this site plus my only trip to America I know we say so many things so differently... I'll do my best to slip in the odd 'English' term for you every now and again :-)
The shot of your childhood toy is indeed bright, in a good way. Work in the next few days does not sound like such fun. Suggestion...take some more brighter shots over the next few days to cheer your self up if work gets a bit yuk!
What a crowd pleaser this toy would have been. Nice that you have kept it all these years. I have been taking all my recent shots with my 50 mm. I still need to understand how to fix the focus too. This is a great shot with nice limited DOF.
@rg37@andycoleborn seems few of us have just bought this nifty fifty. Its same on the canon really hard to focus even more so close up, surprised you got this to honest. Sometimes is it focus if AF but not let take the shot may be because of lighting. But of course flicking to mf soon sorts that out
I too often wonder what a certain word many mean & then I make up something. Guess I'll start asking. Great that you have taken this yellow sport car with you all of these years.
Really like this Andy and very different from lately. Isn't it interesting how ever much our lives change and we move around, some possessions just have to stay with us. I have quite a few things like that. Trying to catch up on some comments after spending 2 days in bed :-( Those work investigations are horrid, Chris has just finished conducting one of them at his work. Good luck.
cheers everyone, your great comments are always very much appreciated... @azza_l yeah, noticed a few of us old skool 365ers have the 50mm... mine is solely manual, haven't tried it in daylight yet as all shos taken after work... will give it a go this weekend @photophil thanks Philip, yeah, it's manual only on my camera... hence loads of 'recycled' pics so far :-) @Cherrill Thanks - yeah, I've afew momentos that have followed me around, often thought about chucking them but just don't seem to have the heart... As for the investigation, not the most serious of offences so will prob just be a slap on the wrist (yep, we still have capital punishment at out place :-)....)
Need for speed
