I fairly sure this is my first proper sneaky/candid shot. I have taken street shots before, but have been quite open, standing in the street, camera pointing at what I'm taking...
I have tried and failed to take shots holding the camera at waste height when in a market a few months ago, but armed with my new stealthy iphone, I found it much easier to be sly compared to holding a DSLR !!
Will try more of this type of shot, hopefully with better results..
This was taken as I waited for my train home this evening... What caught my eye here was almost everywhere I looked, people were checking their mobiles... even the guy walking away on the blue coat was looking at his phone! The person in green was also checking her mobile as she stepped across me and into shot.
Glad it's Friday.... although I have another day of driving down to Pompey tomorrow to no doubt watch another shambolic affair!!!
This is interesting, I think it turned out very well. I agree that this would be almost impossible with a DSLR. Whenever I try street photography, I'd find people staring at me, looking annoyed 'cause they're feeling their privacy being invaded. I don't have the guts for this... :-(
Excellent picture Andy.
I love street photography. Probably my favourite genre of photography. Street photography looks fabulous in black and white too. Like you say it is not easy with a DSLR, although with a high end compact (and an Iphone by the look of it) it is easier to do.
I'm not a student of photography, but I do like some of the classic henri cartier bresson pictures.
You'll probably see quite a bit of street photogrpahy in my 365 project as the number of my photo's increases.
Thanks for the follow
the cindy at the week end was really sly, tilting lcd screen you just pretend fiddling with the functions, great effort mind mate. Everyone always plays wit their phone.
@phil_howcroft cheers Phil, yeah agree, street pics do look good in B&W, think once I get the knack of being a bit more candid, I'll be doing a lot more... btw, you are also my 600th follower!!!!!!!!!! blimey!!
Nice work Andy. Great underground street shot! Now in this case they probably would not have noticed a big SLR camera because everyone was too busy checking their phones and would not have noticed your big ole camera! Ha! Cannot wait to see more street from you!
nice work andy c - this is the tricky and intimidating aspect of snapping shots for me, so much harder/hit n miss. But exciting and surprising.
Big respect to the 365 street capturers.
The fact that everyone was looking at their phones was what caught my eye too, the fact that you took it with your phone enhances the shot. Great hip shot.
You will get braver Andy ...and a great shot you got too...tells you about the 21st C eh? Besides having a tilting LCD as Aaron pointed out another good ploy is to find a bench ( actually sit on it instead of look at it) and take pics from there of people passing, chatting, doing there thing...they hardly notice and it means you can keep the camera fairly steady and look inconspicous at the same time!!
