Had the opportunity with a colleague to go up onto the roof of a 25 storey tower block near to work this evening - one of the residents wanted to take some night shots - so I was only to happy to tag along.
I've been up here before during the afternoon, was a few years ago and before I was interested in taking photos, so back then, I just enjoyed the view.
I am annoyed though, as I knew about this in advance but forgot to bring my tripod with me into work... Never mind, I thought, the roof is bound to have a wall so I'll use that.
Unfortunately, the architect decided to put a curved brick wall around the roof meaning there was hardly anywhere decent to wedge in the camera for a steady long exposure shot. Hence a lot of 1/4 second shots trying to hold the camera steady..
I took about 50 snaps, but ended up deleting almost all.. This is probably the best - looking towards West London and the City.
The eagle eyed should be able to spot the London-Eye, the Gerkin and St Paul's Cathedral sneakling into shot... During the day you can also see Wembley and the arch.
I've arranged to go up again next week to try and get some decent sunset photos (weather permiting)..
How funny that my first thought was that I wished my night-time photos were as clear as yours! This looks terrific, and not a typical view across London. (I thought of you and otheer UK 365ers as we flew across London into Heathrow on our way home...would have loved to have spent some time there!)
This turned out quite well and being hand held. You must have held your breath. Beautiful view and looking forward to your sunset shots. Hope you enjoyed your cheesehead hat!
You and your tripod haha, but yet again you managed a beautiful shot. You must have some steady hands friend. My husband and I were just talking about the London Skyline. Micheal was saying how he doesn't remember them ever showing the skyline in tv shows etc...it was always Big Ben or the House of Parliment. But now they show the skyline.
thanks you guys :-)... @Weezilou thanks, shame you couldn't squeeze in a few days in London... maybe another time. @andifree ha ha, I've had the tripod 8mths and used it perhaps 4 times!!!
Jealous, shame about the tripod, or lack of. Still sweet shot mind.
Remember at the 365 meet I mentioned there was somehwere near tate (well what i thought was near tate) where you can go up and grap a few views that i had seen on here
A fav from me! :o)
Great shot and I could't resist magnifying this to check all the land-marks. You did good without your tripod.
Nice night shot of your town.
