Medals

Going through some of the old man's stuff, I came across his Dad's WWI and WWII medals...

I haven't seen these for years - they're a little tatty as I use to play with them as a kid and also have them pinned up on a shelf..

From L-R:

Long Service Medal
1914-1915 Star
Atlantic Star
1939-1945 Star
Africa Star
Victory Medal (WWI)
British War Medal (WWI)

The Brisitsh War Medal is solid silver I believe..

Not sure where my Dad's medals went..!!!

And of course, there's one medal from the 'other side'... My Mum's mum was awarded the Iron Cross for services to The Fatherland...! Now that would be medal to have!!

Oh wow. So neat. I hope you find his medals.

That is awesome. Maybe they deserve an individual shot each?

Awesome, thought they were your dad's for a sec, but then thought hang on WW1 ended over 90 years ago! Hope your dad's medals turn up. Funny though how we're lucky to not have any...

These are so cool. You should have them mounted inside a shadow box frame.

Great image, I read it as your Dad's medals too, and was thinking 'how old?' Great collection for your family to have. Ironic that your Dad's Dad and Mum's Mum both got medals in the same war but for different sides, It must have been a strange first meeting for the in-laws.

What a great find. WWI and WWII, what a patriotic and historic find.

Fave, this made me think of my grandfather, who passed away at age 96 in 2008. Well done. Thinking of you and your family.

@berni Well, plenty of British and US service men married German's after WWII... Mum had a tough time in the UK immediately after the war because of the hatred of all things German (Hell... I still do today lol)...
