Back to Hampshire for another weekend taking in the latest installment of the current Pompey fiasco and a check in on Mum..
It was another cloudless night so in the early evening I headed down to Hill Head to try out long exposure night shots...
Left my tripod in London which sort of scuppered my plans, so to use some elevation, I rested a packet of chewing gum under the lens... Wriggly's extra ice if you're interested in the detail..
This was taken looking towards the giant Fawley oil refinery... Am hoping that's a shooting star as couple of other efforts caught a plane and those outcomes were not like this... But if it's a plane, well, still quite pleased with this...
And onto the game... Pompy 0 Leeds 0... Quite a good game, good crowd and a blatant pen the ref missed.! On the highlights, even their player (ex Pompey player) stuck hs hand up appealling..! The twat... lol
Fabulous long exposure. Looks like a star to me, the planes usually leave those lines side to side as the port and starboard lights go on and off. Great coloration.
thanks guys... @fueast@aye true.. hadn't concidered that... @azza_l thanks fella... I did a couple where I then ran into shot (I also left remote release at home)... worked okish but gives me some more ideas
thanks guys.... @loztsoul wow mate! but honsestly there's so many better pics on here than this is one, but a big thanks anyway :-) @prttblues think I know which is venus, but not sure on jupiter...
I am soooo behind in catching up!! This is fabulous....who could have thought Fawley could look so good! Love the chewnig gum reference..lol Hope your mum's doing ok. And @fueast Alison gets extra points for mentioning Billy Bragg........one of my favouritest artists!!
@Cherrill haha yeah, chewing gum came in very handy :-).. did use my wallet but was too empty to get the elevaion needed :-)
@weekendhacker thanks mate... was almost pitch black where I was standing, apart from the oil refinery which was about 20 miles across the water and too my left, the isle of Wight wheich was 10 miles or so... As to what I did, I set the focus to manual and focused through the camera until the most distant object (the oil refinary) was shaarp, then using a 30 sec exposure and chewing gum packet hped for the best ;-)
great night sky shot . great to see so many stars visible.as well.
@azza_l thanks fella... I did a couple where I then ran into shot (I also left remote release at home)... worked okish but gives me some more ideas
@adeakinyede @bdb3471 cheers guys
@azza_l glad it was pitch black so no one spotted my make shift set up :-)
@prttblues think I know which is venus, but not sure on jupiter...
1. Was it pitch black from your shooting location?
2. How did you get the focus to be so spot on?
Thanks!!!
