Thanks to all for recent views and comments. This was taken from the steps of the Lanier Mansion (1844) in Madison, Indiana. The water is the Ohio River and the bluffs on the other side are Kentucky. Madison prospered in the steamboat era. The owner of these gardens loaned the state of Indiana over 1 million dollars to equip its troops during the Civil War.
