American Bittern by annepann

American Bittern

So happy to have gotten this shot. These birds are also very elusive, despite their large size. This one was by a ditch, and after we slammed on the brakes of the car to see it, it turned around and moved into the high grass, but not before I got off one shot of its front from the back seat.
I'd love to have watched the taking of this shot! Know exactly how you were feeling and what you were doing - super shot - you've had some awesome bird finds and shots this month. Fav

@milaniet The woman I was with told me that her husband knows that if she is ever in a car accident, he should ask "What bird was it?"

What a beautiful photo! Bitterns are "red-listed" in the UK as one of the species most under threat.
